Holistic Health And Wellness can mean different things to different people. To some, it may mean physical fitness, to some emotional balance. While to some people it means relief from stress and for others it means spiritual health, etc.
“Health is just not being disease-free. Health is when every cell in your body is bouncing with joy”
Sadhguru
So, wellness as a whole is striking a balance and harmonizing your inner being with your outer self.
It means practicing healthy habits on a regular/ daily basis to accomplish a sync between your mental and physical well-being.
The Holistic View
Holistic living is where one is being mindful of their thoughts, soul, and body.
This lifestyle should help nourish all your soul, mind, and body. This is a way of thinking rather than an exact system.
Be mindful of your breathing, eating, and chewing your food, such that it helps nourish your body with the optimum results.
This approach to health is essential to address the leading cause of the problem from the root rather than just the symptoms.
It encourages people into taking charge of their health and well-being. It is also essential to prevent illness and find long-term solutions for existing ones.

There are five main areas of Holistic Health & Living:
- Mental Health
- Physical Health
- Spiritual Health
- Intellectual Health
- Social Health
Now each of them is important in its own way and needs to be practiced for one’s well-being.
Out of all the above, we seldom take Social Health into consideration. But that should be well-considered, for what shows on reel life is not always real.
One needs to be mindful of the social circle one maintains.
Your social circle should be one that uplifts you, helps you grow, helps nurture you – not one that puts you down, degrow you, plays with your self-confidence, your self-respect, etc.
In today’s day and age with so much exposure to technology and so little to nature, practicing a holistic way of living is the key to helping maintain sanity.
Striking the right balance is of utmost importance. It’s sometimes alright to not know it all or do not have all the answers.
Let’s understand the components of Holistic Health in much more detail:
1. Mental Health
“Nothing in this world can torment you as much as your own thoughts”
Unknown
You become what you think about and what you put in your system.
Mental health is a behavioral, cognitive, and emotional well-being state.
Anybody, without any valid reasons, can feel low, depressed, hyper, anxious, hurt, etc. You may feel incompetent, cannot cope with the daily hustle-bustle of life, or doubt your abilities to be efficient or productive.
You may live in constant self-doubt. No matter how big your achievements you still won’t feel happy about it.
Mental well-being has a lot to also do with the food you eat, physical exercise, the people you hang out with, work environment, etc.
Overthinking, self-criticism, comparison, self-analysis can be a root cause of mental illness.

3 Main Types of Mental Health Problems:
- Anxiety disorder
- Psychotic/ Bipolar disorder
- Depression
At present times with technology advancing, our fast-paced lives, it becomes highly imperative that we take care of our mental well-being and not let anyone or yourself destroy or sabotage it.
To keep mental health under check and strive towards holistic health, one must do the following things:
- Meditate
- Practice yoga or any form of physical exercise so as to let the happy hormones follow.
- Breathing exercise is of great importance.
- Stop comparing & Stop overthinking.
- Avoid junk and outside food as much as possible. Like someone once said what we put inside, shows on our outside. Try to cook one meal yourself or at least bless the food cooked by your staff, because food contains energies.
Practice the above steps and you will be far from any mental illness.
2. Physical Health
“Exercise is the key not only to physical health but to the peace of mind”
Nelson Mandela
We are all slaves of technology, which means we are almost robots. Everything is a click away. Movement is as minimal as it can be, which has given rise to a zillion diseases.
Back in times people worked in the fields all day long, walked to places, or cycled their way which kept them looking and feeling young and kept a lot of diseases at bay.
But as comfort and technology increased so did the aliments.
Our mind and body are connected, so the healthy you keep your mind – the healthy you keep your body.
Physical fitness helps us achieve some major goals in life. Following are the examples:
- Fat reduction
- Increase in muscle
- Strength building
- Slows down the aging process
- Reduces stress
- Increase flexibility
- Reduces risk of disease
- Improves life quality
A combination of workouts can help your system to create the right balance in your life. Your fitness regime should be such that helps improve flexibility, increases blood circulation, de-stresses, helps better sleep quality, etc.
Now let’s also rest and pamper the tired body with some rejuvenating therapies every once or twice a week.

3. Spiritual & Intellectual Health
Like our body needs food so does our soul, and spiritual awakening is soul food.
“Spirituality is not an extraterrestrial thing- it is the essence of human existence”
Our body has the ability to produce any chemical that is related to our internal state – If we are happy, sad, blissful, negative, angry, etc, our body secretes chemicals accordingly.
The healthier our emotions, the healthier our cells can be.
Spiritual energy is a gradual process, we are all made of energies but in our day-to-day life, we become unaware of them.
It doesn’t mean waking up one fine day from a deep slumber/ sleep, it means taking into account your every moment or feeling alive every minute of your life to its fullest.
“Your body is your temple, keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in”
B.K.S Iyengar
Following are some signs of spiritual awakening:
- Finding a purpose to live
- Self love
- Love to spend time on your own
- Becoming aware
- Cannot deal with toxic people
- Averse to negative energy
- Understand energies
So, be cognitive and be alive!
Keep the faith, stay positive, start with baby steps, be mindful, allow self-appreciation, stay humble and grounded.
